First off, you will have to forget everything you have learned about the Shar Pei and history. I hate to break the news to you, but the Shar Pei was living in China 1,000 years before people showed up and messed everything up. They didn't breed us to become guard, herding or fighting dogs, we choose the positions to maintain the peace. A few years ago the Chinese broke the 6,000 year old peace treaty and almost killed us off.
My great great grandmother told me this story when I was just a pup.
Along time ago when the humans took over our great land there was one human name Zen Wa Lee who had befriended the King of the Shar Pei, Lu Ti. The two of them together had built a country of great peace and beauty. The days past into years until one day a greedy man by the name of Chin Wa killed Lu Ti and blamed it on Zen Wa Lee. The Shar Pei became very angry with the humans and that is when the so called "Pei Wars" broke out. It lasted one thousand years and the Shar Pei and humans alike lost their lives because of one greedy human.
During the Pei Wars, a princess was born as the prophets had foretold, who would end the war and bring peace and beauty back to our land. She was born by the most beautiful lake and as the wind rippled the water her mother called out her name. Princess Mia!
It's not me, but I do come from a long long long line of princesses.
Anyway here's the rest of the story as told by my great great grandmother....
She was white as snow and her fur was soft as it should be for a princess. Her mother cleaned her very carefully as to not damage the young Princess that would one day end the Pei Wars. When Princess Mia had reached adulthood, she wispered one word, and in a blink of an eye, it ended the Pei Wars. But to this day no one knows what that "word" is. And with every generation a new pricess is born, and her name is Mia and pasted on to her is the "word" that ended the Pei Wars.
Anyway, that's the short version of the story. The longer version is way to long to post on this blog!
And yes, I know what the "word" is, and I'm not telling you! So don't even ask!!
Now, back to Shar Pei 101. Back in the old days we hunted together with a young wolf pack that just happened to be an offspring from the breeding of a very lonely Shar Pei and some other four legged thing. And you guessed it, the Shar Pei came first and then the wolf, so just get a pen and write that one down right on your forehead. We taught the wolf's how to hunt and after sometime, they supplied us with food so we could spend our days meditating.Â
Then came a human Prince, who wanted to learn the ways of the Shar Pei. After many years of leaning and meditating, he had become one with us and today he is known as the "Budda". The "enlightened one" I think is another name we used for him. You'll have to give the Shar Pei some credit, without us you humans would still be in the stone age!
That's it for tonight,
Mia
